Natural Disasters
This term in Science we will be investigating how geological changes or extreme weather conditions can affect Earth's surface, specifically volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, droughts and cyclones. We will be using the app Book Creator to collect our information each week. We have looked at which areas of the world are affected by these natural disasters. Most weeks we will be performing an experiment to simulate the effects of either a tsumani, cyclone, earthquakes and volcanoes. Sometimes students will be asked to collect some common materials from home.
Studying a significant scientist |
18/6 |
This week in science the class has been studying a historical significant scientist. The students were given a brief overview of a number of different scientist, from which they had to chose one that they had the most interest in. As part of the task, they had to gain a better understanding of what is involved with their scientist field of science. Then the kids give an overview of the scientist's lives, as well as an acknowledgment all of the their major contributions to their chosen field. The students then presented their work as a poster for display. The level of commitment that has been demonstrated in the collaboration, research and presentation of these posters, from every group has been unbelievable! Every group should be proud of the effort they have put into this task.
Science Talent Search
Templestowe Park Primary is looking for some entries to submit to the Science Talent Search. All Grade 6 students are working in pairs over the coming weeks to investigate and explain an area of science. There are a number of entry techniques including videos, posters, picture story books or models. The students are choosing their own topic to demonstrate a clear understanding of the science involved.
Design briefs are being explored before construction and presentation can begin.
